Hello everyone, and thankyou so much for reading this blog. If you have come this far, it surely means you have a heart and soul of an artist, and guess what, we are so much like-minded.

When we think of drawing something out, we always get confused by some big fat questions like: How am I even going to start? Where should I draw? Are there some actual good applications I can try? How much they are going to cost? And so on.

Well, me being an artist for over 10 years now, I have been there! Done that! And I won’t lie, it gets confusing. Choosing art as a hobby may be expensive at times, but not anymore in the present word we live in. During the course of my art journey, from traditional art to digital, I have tried and tested many androids as well as iOS apps and I want to help you guys with my experience finding a good app for yourself.

Following are the list of Top 7 FREE Drawing apps available in Android – 2020 (Tried and Tested!!)

  1. SketchBook – draw and paint
  2. Adobe Photoshop Sketch
  3. Adobe Illustrator Draw
  4. ibis Paint X
  5. MediBang Paint
  6. Infinite Painter
  7. Concepts – Sketch, Design, Illustrate

1)     SketchBook – draw and paint (by Autodesk Inc.)

This one is my personal favorite and I myself started my digital art journey with this app (Sorry if I am being partial ;). It has got all the features that an expensive paid app might have. This one suits just anyone from a newbie to a professional. And its Editor’s choice! (It has time-lapse recording too!!)

Now even the pro version is Free for everyone to use which used to be a paid version earlier. It cannot get any better than that right? Guess what! It has got a HUGE number of customizable brushes available for you guys to use! It also provides multiple layers feature which can get exported in .psd format. It actually cannot get better than that! (Hushh… You get Copic markers feature too!!)

2)     Adobe Photoshop Sketch (by Adobe)

This app is also an Editor’s choice and best for all types of artists. Be it a quick sketch or a full-on drawing, you can go with this one.

I still have it and use it for quick logo designs or vector illustrations. It offers around 9 -10 Brush tools that is customizable and provide a feature of layering in your artworks. For people using any kind of pressure-sensitive stylus and tablet, the brushes in this app work just fine with pressure sensitivity as well.

The app is totally Free and contains no ads, which make it a good contender among other apps!

3)     Adobe Illustrator Draw (by Adobe)

Winner of PlayStore Editor’s choice award, it is one of the most popular and Free drawing apps out there. Often called just Adobe Illustrator or Ai, I always have this on my device.

Best used for drawing vector illustrations which can be zoomed up to 64x without losing clarity! So if you are someone who just wants to have fun drawing something to get a high resolution drawing so that you can print it out and display it on your walls, go for it!

It has this cool n amazing feature called auto-fill, were you get kind of drag-drop-hold method to auto-fill any area of your drawing!! How cool is that!

4)     ibis Paint X (by ibis Inc.)

It is one of the versatile apps out there that support 335 kinds of brushes including dip pens, felt tip pens, digital pens, air brushes, fan brushes, flat brushes, pencils, oil brushes, charcoal brushes, crayons and stamps.

Only one flip side is, it contains ads. So if you are someone who is not bothered by ads while you draw (like me), then you can totally go for this Free version. Else you can go ahead and buy the ad-free feature (one-off payment) too.

I have used this app to draw a while ago and it offers an amazing variety of tools, brushes, and layer options. (also offers time-lapse recording feature!!)

5)     MediBang Paint (by MediBang Inc.)

It is a very interesting and Free drawing app that has over 100 brushes, comic panel for all the comic artists out there, Pre-made backgrounds to use and a lot of screen tones!

I have used it personally, and to be very honest, even I haven’t discovered all its features yet! Coz it has a ton of features (good for explorers!) MediBang Paint is available on Windows, Mac OS X, Android and iOS

It also has this hand gesture feature where you can use two-finger tap to undo and three-finger tap to redo! How cool is that! So go explore it now!!

6)     Infinite Painter (by Infinite Studio Mobile)

This app offers over 160 kinds of realistic brushes and you can even create your own set of brushes here! A fairly decent app to begin your art journey with and is Free to use. Though it has got some in-app purchase options, only if you want to.

It gives you the option to export your layers in .psd format too!! It also has some additional features such as liquify, gradient and pattern fill, etc. So if you are looking for something with a bit of some realistic touch, you can surely go for this one.

7)     Concepts – Sketch, Design, Illustrate (by TopHatch, Inc.)

It is one of the most fun to use Free app to use and I personally love its interface. The main point of attraction is the color wheel. You can play around with the Copic colors too!

This is one of my liked apps out there which provide a good feature such as infinite canvas with layering. What’s cool is, it offers various paper texture types to draw on and has a realistic touch to its brushes as well.

It can be used to illustrate, design, notes taking, and more! So you can definitely go ahead with this one.
